Purpose

The Distinguished Leadership Academy (DLA) is an advanced leadership program in which a small cohort of participants engage in a year-long academy to further develop their leadership practices, deepen their understanding of the South Texas College mission and collaborate in a small team to design a project that addresses a current need or opportunity at the College.

Audience

South Texas College faculty and staff who have successfully completed Ambassadors Cross-Training Academy (ACTA).

Time Commitment

DLA participants will meet for 10 monthly sessions throughout the academic year (fall and spring semesters). Each session is 3 hours in duration. In addition to attending monthly sessions, participants will meet frequently with their teams to develop a project that aligns with the mission of the College.

Benefits

DLA offers opportunities to engage in networking activities and reflective assignments that foster personal and professional growth and deepen the understanding of the mission and strategic plan of the College. Facilitated discussions with STC and community leaders provide practical insights for leadership growth. Additionally, participants work in small groups over the course of the year to identify and develop a project that responds to a need or opportunity at the College. Monthly session topics include:

  • Management vs. Leadership.
  • Decision making for student success.
  • Emotional intelligence.
  • Motivational Leadership.
