Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

The demand for licensed truck drivers is skyrocketing. South Texas College Commercial Truck License Institute will now provide the RGV with qualified drivers to meet this need. Admission Requirements

  • Have a valid Texas class C driver’s license; Not suspended in Texas or any other state
  • Must be at least 21 for interstate driving or 18 for intrastate
  • Must provide a 3-year History Record (Type 2) from the Texas Department of Public Safety
  • Must pass Department of Transportation (DOT) physical and drug screen
  • Social Security Card
  • Two proofs of residence
  • Birth Certificate or proof of lawful presence
  • Complete driver training application

Program Objectives

After graduation from this program, the student will be:

  1. Qualified to secure an entry level job as an over-the road driver with a Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  2. Aware of safety procedures; alcohol and drug effects; laws and penalties applicable to the professional driver.
  3. Proficient at performing pre-trip, on the road, and post-trip vehicle and equipment inspections.
  4. Skillful in safe driving techniques.
  5. Capable of map reading, log books, cargo documentation, dispatch procedures, emergency responsibilities and regulations, and regulations of transportation agencies.
  6. Able, as interstate, to travel all 48 states and Canada in all kinds of weather and terrain.
