Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

The demand for licensed truck drivers is skyrocketing. South Texas College Commercial Truck License Institute will now provide the RGV with qualified drivers to meet this need.  

Hazmat endorsement and Automatic Transmission Restriction courses are now available to current CDL License holders.

Orientations will be held at 2 pm on the following locations and dates: 

May 8, 2024: Technology Campus, Building E1-804, 3700 West Military Highway

May 22, 2024: Pecan Plaza, Room 1-702, 2621 West Pecan Boulevard 

May 28, 2024: Starr County Campus, Building D, 142 FM 3167 

 Program Details

  • Students will receive 160-hours of in-class and hands-on training with experienced instructors.
  • Classes are scheduled for Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 pm and Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 12 pm. (no evening or weekends).
  • The program costs $4,228.00 (includes tuition, books, insurances, drug screen and physical).

Financial Assistance

Texas Public Education Grant (TPEG)

TPEG is available for qualifying students. Financial aid only covers part of the cost of the program. The student is responsible for the balance. This is a grant and does not require repayment. Workforce Solutions (WFS)

WFS may cover the cost of the program (minus the DPS fees - $134) if you meet their qualifications. For more information and to see if you qualify, apply online at


Forward Loan is available for students interested in Driver Training tuition coverage. Approved students will have a fixed annual rate of 3.85% and begin payments 6 months after program completion.
