Commercial Driver's License (CDL)

Enrollment Opens Dec. 2021. Classes Begin Jan. 2022.

The demand for licensed truck drivers is skyrocketing. South Texas College Commercial Truck License Institute will now provide the RGV with qualified drivers to meet this need. Students will receive 200 hours of in-class and hands-on training with experienced instructors. Connect with one of our representatives and reserve your spot today.

Program Details

  • Classes start every month beginning in January 2022.
  • If you do not qualify for assistance from WFS, a limited amount of financial aid (TPEG) may be available for those who qualify. TPEG will only cover up to $500, the balance would have to be paid by the student.
  • Classes are scheduled for Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. (no evening or weekends).
  • The program costs $4,058.82 (see below for financial assistance information).

Workforce Solutions (WFS) may cover the cost of the program (minus the DPS fees - $132) if you meet their qualifications. For more information and to see if you qualify, contact your nearest WFS office:

If you do not qualify for assistance from WFS, financial aid is also available for those who qualify. Financial aid may cover $1,849. The student is responsible for the balance.

After graduation from this program, the student will be:

  1. Qualified to secure an entry level job as an over-the road driver with a Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  2. Aware of safety procedures; alcohol and drug effects; laws and penalties applicable to the professional driver.
  3. Proficient at performing pre-trip, on the road, and post-trip vehicle and equipment inspections.
  4. Skillful in safe driving techniques.
  5. Capable of map reading, log books, cargo documentation, dispatch procedures, emergency responsibilities and regulations, and regulations of transportation agencies.
  6. Able, as interstate, to travel all 48 states and Canada in all kinds of weather and terrain.
