The demand for licensed truck drivers is skyrocketing. South Texas College Commercial Truck License Institute will now provide the RGV with qualified drivers to meet this need.
Hazmat endorsement and Automatic Transmission Restriction courses are now available to current CDL License holders.
Program Details
- Students will receive 160-hours of in-class and hands-on training with experienced instructors.
- Classes are scheduled for Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 pm and Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 12 pm. (no weekends).
- Evening courses are scheduled once a month from 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm Monday through Friday.
- Tuition costs $4,304.70 (includes insurances, DOT physical and drug screen).

Requirements
- Have a valid Texas driver's license (Class C).
- Be 18 years old (to drive in-state) or 21 years old (to drive out of state).
- Understand, read and speak basic English.
Documents Needed
- 2 proofs of residence (not required if you have Texas REAL ID)
- Birth certificate or evidence of lawful presence.
- Social Security card.
- A 3-year Driving History Record from the Texas Department of Public Safety which can be requested at https://www.dps.texas.gov/section/driver-license/how-order-driver-record. The cost is $12 and is paid directly to DPS.
Financial Assistance
Texas Public Education Grant (TPEG)
TPEG is available for qualifying students. Financial aid only covers part of the cost of the program. The student is responsible for the balance. This is a grant and does not require repayment. To begin application, apply online, then email CDL@southtexascollege.edu to request a referral. Visit studentaid.gov to apply for Financial Aid.
TPEG is not available until further notice.
Workforce Solutions (WFS)
WFS may cover the cost of the program (minus the DPS fees - $134) if you meet their qualifications. For more information and to see if you qualify, apply online at www.wfsolutions.com.
FORWARD Loan
Forward Loan is available for students interested in Driver Training tuition coverage. Approved students will have a fixed annual rate of 3.85% and begin payments 6 months after program completion.
