Professional Development in Salamanca, Spain
South Texas College has been offering a Professional Development opportunity for instructors at the University of Salamanca in Spain. It is a two week a course entitled “The Diversity of Spain’s Art Culture and Economy,” for those who may be interested in the Spanish, Art and the Humanities. The full course consists of three classes given every morning, Monday through Thursday, in Spanish, on the art, history, economy and culture of Spain. This course is designed to promote the Humanities and to promote globalization of the curriculum.

WHAT’S INCLUDED?
- 30 contact hours from La Universidad de Salamanca
- Continuing Professional Development (CPE) Certificate of completion to students who successfully complete 50 clock hours of professional development on the course of Historia del arte, cultura y tradición en la diversidad española
- All meals provided from July 7-21

- Excursions to Toledo, León and Segovia
- Access to all university facilities: libraries, sports facilities, computer center WiFi, etc.
- Cultural visits in Salamanca in which the students will be accompanied by experts who will explain the monuments
- A guided visit to Historical Library. The Historical Library is the research center of the University of Salamanca and one of the most important universities in Spain
- Group transfer from/to Madrid-Barajas Airport (July 7 – group transfer from Madrid- Salamanca)

You may pay the program fess by using STC Marketplace. You may also pay in-person. Only personal checks, cashier's checks, or money orders will be accepted.
Flight is not included in the program fee. Do not book your flight until program is confirmed.
Program cost is $1880 (tentative). The Professional Development fee covers program expense.
Should a participant withdraw after March 1, 2019 deadline, they will be responsible for paying any unrecoverable program costs. If a participant chooses to withdraw after a program's initiation for any reason, no refunds will be given.
Refund Policy: If a participant chooses to withdraw from the Professional Development Program, they must inform the Professional Development Program in writing immediately. The date the Professional Development receives the written notification (by letter or email) is the date by which any refund will be calculated.
Program Cancellation: Should South Texas College cancel the Professional Development Program for any reason, prior to departure or after commencement of the program, the Professional Development Program and South Texas College will make every effort to refund program costs to the participants. Unrecoverable program expenses cannot be refunded.

Requirements
- Be 18 or older by June 5, 2019.
- Be in good standing with STC.
- Enroll in at least one (1) class offered by the Study Abroad Program for Summer I 2019 (classes may be chosen from Education, Spanish, and/or Speech). Pay tuition & fees for a one 3-hour course to Cashiers by their posted deadline. The approximate cost for a 3-hour course is $500.0.
- Submit a complete application along with a $200 non-refundable deposit. Meet payment deadlines to cover the total program cost of $3600.00 by March 1, 2019.
- Accept the terms and conditions of participation.
Program Fee: $3600.00 The program fee includes: All meals, airfare, lodging, transportation, insurance, entrance fees, and program expenses. This does not include tuition/fees and spending money. Tuition for one 3-hour credit class is approximately $500.00.
Financial Aid Options
- Financial Aid for tuition & fees is available for those who qualify
- STC Loans for summer classes are available for those who qualify
- Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship early application deadline: October 2, 2018. You need to be accepted to the program in order to apply for the scholarship. Contact faculty leader
Application Process
- Complete the STC Study Abroad Application
- Submit short essay and recommendation letters as explained on the application
- Submit #200 non-refundable down payment with the application
- Interview with program coordinator
- Present proof of passport
- Maintain monthly payment schedules
- Application deadline: January 31, 2019
