Introducing Blackboard Ally

Blackboard Ally

We are pleased to announce that we have turn on our new Blackboard Ally software, a new tool to improve the accessibility of course content inside the learning management system. We will begin to introduce Blackboard Ally as a pilot for Spring 2020 minimester.

Blackboard Ally is software integrated with Blackboard that automatically scans uploaded files and course materials, looking for common accessibility issues. It provides immediate insight into the level of accessibility in the course and feedback on how the content can be improved for better quality and usability for everyone. Additional benefits for Blackboard Ally includes auto-generated explanations of the problem related to accessibility for each file and provides a recommended resolution to the problem by including steps to make the file an accessible version.

How does Blackboard Ally Work?

Ally automatically scans your original Blackboard content and performs a series of steps to make them more accessible.

  • Generates alternative formats for students to download
  • Provides accessibility scores
  • Gives instructor feedback on how to improve your accessibility score

Accessibility scores are determined by the severity of issues in each file. Ally gives specific guidance on how you can improve your scores by fixing the underlying accessibility issues.
