Public Safety Youth Camp

Donning and Doffing the Fire Gear: Student will be introduced the gear that firefighters wear to fight fires. This includes the coat, pant, boots, hood, helmet, and self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA).
Activity: The students will also be allowed to try on the gear and participate in a contest on who can put the gear on the fastest.
Fire Extinguisher Training: Students will be introduced to the principles of a fire extinguisher and the different types of extinguishers that are available to put out different types of small fires.
Activity: The students will be provided the opportunity to use a real fire extinguisher to put out a small contained fire.
Experience the CPAT: Students will be introduced to the different aspects of the Cadet Physical Ability Test. The test which is comprised of such things as a dummy drag, advancement of hose, step test, etc. is used to test fire academy cadets for entrance into the fire academy.
Activity: The cadets will be given the opportunity to perform the CPAT during this activity.
Get in there! Rescue Tools and Entry Doors: Students will be some of the rescue tools that are used by departments. Tools to be shown include Halligan bar, axe, jaws of life, jacks, etc. A demonstration will be conducted by instructors on how to make forcible entry through a door using only a Halligan bar and either sledge hA.Mmer or flathead axe.
Activity: The students may be given an opportunity to force open the forcible entry door prop using the sA.Me tools.
Feel the FLAIM-Virtual Reality: The students will be introduced to the FLAIM Virtual Reality machine that is used by our Fire Academy cadets for fire scenario training. The equiP.M.ent uses computerized scenarios along with tools that let the student experience firefighting without the dangers associated with conducting live fire training.
Activity: The students will experience different fire scenarios through use of the FLAIM Virtual Reality machine.
Stretching the Hose and Using the Nozzle: The students will become familiarized with the different type and sized hose on a firetruck and what the different sizes are used for. A demonstration will also be conducted showing the deluge water gun in action, and the different types of nozzles used on hoses used for firefighting.
Activity: Students will be given the opportunity to hold a charged line and let water flow through a nozzle.
Book’em Danno-Booking Procedures: The students will become fA.Miliarized with the manual booking process that law enforcement and corrections officers undergo as part of their duties.
Activity: Students will be given the opportunity to take manual fingerprints using fingerprint ink and cards.
Crime Scene Investigation- Sketching the Crime Scene: The student will be introduced to a crime scene and showed how to sketch it using the triangulation and rectangular methods of measurements.
Activity: Students will sketch a mock crime scene created by the instructors and use the different types of measurement tools.
Law Enforcement Fitness and Wellness: Students will be introduced to concepts and different strategies that law enforcement officers use to promote their fitness and wellness and the proper way to use various exercise machines.
Activity: The students will undergo a few physical exercises to include: running, rowing, sit ups, pull-ups, etc.
EVOC-Emergency Vehicle Operations Course: The students will be introduced to the different driving courses that officers and cadets are trained on during the vehicle training.
Activity: Students will be allowed to ride with a EVOC Instructor as he navigates either the serpentine or obstacle course at our facilities track.
