EPA Technician Refrigerant Certification Exam:

In accordance with Section 608 of the Clean Air Act:

United States law requires that all persons - involved in the handling, transfer, maintenance and/or installation of equipment that contains refrigerant (Freon, etc.) regulated by federal law, be certified by the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency to handle such refrigerants. It is a violation of the law to work under somebody else's certification.

E.P.A. Certification consists of a one-time exam that tests your knowledge.

Separate from the credit programs at STC the HVAC/R program offers Refrigerant handling certification through the Esco Institute. Signup is with the Continuing Education Division at STC, ask about the EPA-approved Refrigerant handling certification.

Though not required as a part of the Refrigerant handling certification, the training received through STC's HVAC/R program will assist you in passing the certification exam for refrigerant handling.

For those taking the EPA Technician Certification Exam: A study manual will be provided after registration through the Continuing Education Division at STC, and payment is registered with the STC Cashiers office. The manual can be obtained from the HVAC/R Program chair. The study manual is a self study guide that covers Types I, II and III and the core (Universal) of the EPA Technician Certification Exam.
