ASEP is an educational partnership between South Texas College and General Motors Corporation.  It is a GM-specific program designed to upgrade the technical competency and professional level of the entry level GM dealership technician.  The curriculum reflects current GM technology.

    ASEP provides classroom and laboratory training that is reinforced by on-the-job experience in a GM dealership.  It is a comprehensive, two-year program.

 

  • Technical training to diagnose, service and repair current production GM models to include:

  • Power train

  • Ignition, fuel and emission controls and diagnostics

  • Heat, vent and air conditioning

  • Body and chassis electronic controls

  • Brakes, steering and suspension

In addition, general education courses from communications, humanities, science, math, and social sciences provide the academic background.  During on-campus terms, the students attends classes five days per week.  Each work experience term, the student will accrue a minimum of 320 clock hours working in their sponsoring General Motors dealership.

 

        Each participant in ASEP will be sponsored by a General Motors dealership.  The student spends one term on campus in the classroom and lab.  The following term, student technicians work for their sponsoring GM dealership, earning a wage and gaining practical on-the-job experience as they put to use the skills learned in the classroom.  The terms will alternate in college and back to dealer until completion of the program.

 

 

 

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Meet minimum standards on Mechanical Aptitude test and complete the TASP exam
  • Be employable by a dealership
  • Have a clean driving record and a valid driver's license
  • Have desire and initiative to work hard for two years

 


  • Interview with ASEP lead instructor, Call (956) 618-8345 to schedule an appointment
  • Apply for admission at STC
  • Complete ASEP entrance testing process
  • Secure GM dealership employment
  • Register for ASEP classes and begin program
