The Texas legislature passed legislation requiring that effective with the 1989 fall semester all Texas public college and university students be tested for reading, writing, and mathematics skills. The Texas legislature passed legislation under the Texas Success Initiative to allow students to use any of the Alternative Examinations (ACCUPLACER, ASSET, COMPASS, OR THEA) as one of the required test for all students enrolling in a Texas public college or university seeking a non-certificate degree.

What is the THEA? - The THEA Test is designed to provide information about the reading, mathematics, and writing skills of students entering public colleges, universities, and educator preparation programs in public and private institutions.

THEA test dates - The Testing Center administers the THEA-Quick Test throughout the year. Information on testdates, registration, and general information is available upon request.
