Suggestions on how to wear and care for your cap and gown:

How do I wear the tassel?
Begin with your tassel on the left side of your cap.  Following confirmation of your degree by the Dean of Enrollment Services, the entire graduating class will move their tassels to the right in unison.  This signifies the move to a higher level of education.  Moving the tassel to the right is also important as it will keep the tassel out of your face when you have your picture taken on stage with the College President.

How should I wear my cap?
Your cap should be worn so the mortarboard is level and not placed on the back or to the side of your head. The crown should rest approximately one to one and one-half inches above each ear. This also helps assure that the mortarboard is level.

What should I wear underneath my gown?
Light, comfortable clothing should be worn underneath your gown. It is recommended that a suit coat or jacket not be worn.  Shoes and other articles of visible apparel worn by graduates should be of dark colors that harmonize with the gown.

How do I take care of my cap and gown?
Remove your cap, tassel and gown from the package.  Place the gown on a hanger.  Because of the material, your cap and gown should not be washed, dry cleaned or worn in inclement weather.  You may press the gown with a cool iron to remove wrinkles.

Invitations

Pick up your invitations when you get your cap and gown.

Invitations are free.

Each graduate may have a maximum of four invitations (you may invite as many people as you wish to the ceremony, but the College will only issue each student 4 invitations).

Send your invitations to family and friends early enough to arrive two weeks before your graduation date.

Send a thank you note as soon as possible after graduation. People appreciate receiving thank you notes promptly.  It makes them feel that they were an important part of the occasion and reassures them that their gift was received by you.

Graduation Photos

You will receive one free 5x7 photo taken at graduation as you are congratulated by Dr. Shirley Reed, South Texas College President.

Additional photos may be ordered from the photographer at your expense.  Information will be available when you pick up your free photo.
