SPCH 1311: Introduction to Speech Communication
This course includes theory and application of the various elements of the speech communication process through lecture, class discussion, and active participation. Students have the opportunity to develop skills in specific types of communication behavior including listening, interviewing, small group interaction, and public speaking.

SPCH 1315: Public Speaking
This course focuses on research, composition, organization, delivery and analysis of speeches for various purposes and occasions.

SPCH 1318: Interpersonal Communication

This course includes instruction and activities in the principles of human communication and interaction. Includes self-concept, self-disclosure and risk, defensiveness, perception, empathy, semantics and abstraction, language, attitudes and behavior, and nonverbal communication. Listening and feedback, relational communication, assertiveness and conflict resolution are included. Students interested in careers within the nursing field would greatly benefit from this course.

SPCH 1321: Business & Professional Speaking

This course emphasizes theories and practice of speech communication as applied to business and professional situations. Students interested in careers within the business field should consider registering for this course.

SPCH 2333: Discussion & Small Group Communication

This course studies discussion and small group theories and techniques as they relate to group process and interaction.

SPCH 2335: Argumentation & Debate

This course emphasizes theories and practice in argumentation and debate including analysis, reasoning, organization, evidence, and refutation.

Drama Courses


DRAM 1310: Introduction to Theatre

This course introduces theatre and develops an appreciation and understanding of the various factors that make up a live theatre performance. This course also surveys all phases of theatre including its history, dramatic works, stage techniques, production procedure and relationship to the fine arts.

DRAM 1351: Acting I

Acting I stresses the development of basic skills and techniques in acting and theatrical performance, including increased sensory awareness, improvisational skills, ensemble performing, character analysis and script analysis. Emphasis will be on developing these acting tools through prepared exercises, monologues and dialogues.
