Adjunct Faculty Academy
The Adjunct Faculty Academy (AFA) was designed to provide support, guidance, and training to our adjunct faculty. The AFA will introduce adjunct faculty to STC culture and polices, inform them about the available resources, and provide them with professional development training on effective teaching strategies.
Sessions
- Fall 2007 Academy will be held on Wednesday nights and the class will be limited to 35 participants
- Spring 2008 Academy will be held on Tuesday in order to accommodate the teaching schedules of our adjunct faculty.
- Registration will be first come first serve basis; however, priority will be given to all new adjunct faculty who have served one year or less at STC.
Participation
New Adjunct Faculty will participate in the Academy during their first semester of teaching or during the subsequent semester. All adjunct faculty who teach for STC will have up to two years to complete the AFA. During the implementation phase, sessions will be offered in the Fall, Spring and Summer. Subsequently, the AFA will be held at least once a year, based on need.
Completion and Compensation
• Graduates of the academy will receive a Certificate of Completion. In addition, adjunct faculty who have completed all the requirements of the academy and have attended a minimum of six sessions will receive a $120 stipend upon graduation.
Commitment Time and Effort
AFA participants must take part in the following:
- Adjunct Faculty Professional Development Day
- Participation in 7 face-to-face meetings with completion of online modules is required.
- Face –to-face meetings will be held Wednesdays in the Fall and Tuesdays in the Spring from 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. in H-216 (PCN)
- Self-Reflection Paper – (2-5 pages in length)
