SEMESTER PROJECT: Figure Drawings

INSTRUCTIONS

Text book figures are important and excellent learning tools. Selecting the "figure drawing project" will fulfill the semester project requirements, but also help your learning of important concepts.

Read and follow the instructions carefully! This is not an art class. The important thing is that you spend some time thinking and working with the figures in your textbook to help your learning. You will not be graded for artistic talent and are not expected to spend hours and hours making drawings -- the assignment is only worth a few percent of your total biology grade. However, you will be graded on if you followed instructions -- or not, and sloppy work and lack of care will NOT be accepted.

Click on the link (below) for the correct class to see the figure list. You must draw all figures listed by hand (colored over photocopies CANNOT be used!). Then go to your text book to see the figures.

The figures -- ONE per page, must be collated properly, with a titel page, a table of contents, and the units clearly separated (when more than one unit). Each figure must have a caption (not just a figure number and a title). When you submit the drawings for a grade each must be in plastic sheet protector (actually, you can use one for two drawings -- one on each side) placed in a reasonable size binder (max 1/2 inch back), OR if you do not want to use plastic sheet protectors in a three-clasp folder. (Make sure you select a folder making it possible to see the COMPLETE drawing!)

Note: Unlike the notes projectall previous figure drawings must also again be turned in when you turn in the unit due -- with the units clearly separated by clearly visible and labeled dividers, i.e., when turning in Unit III you MUST also turn in the earlier drawings you did for Unit I and II. Late unit drawings will, however, not be accepted for a grade.

If you do not understand these instructions talk to your instructor. Remember the following: NEATNESS COUNTS AND IS AN EASY WAY TO EARN HIGHER GRADES! Really, the only way you will not get a good grade on this project is if you don't follow instructions (read the instructions carefully!) and/or if you turn in sloppy work (the quality will be determined subjectively by the instructor).
