Try to focus on the big picture. Try to organize material using a logical system: first look at the general picture of a concept, then the details, and finally, ask yourself how things function together in a complete system.
Memorization will not work unless you attempt to organize each piece into the larger picture.
Use the pictures in the textbook, or on handouts, to put concepts into a pattern that makes sense to you. If you can picture something in your mind it will help you understand how it all fits together.
LEARNING TOOLS:
The most important learning tool is your textbook. Use the textbook to help you learn! Your textbook is a 24-hour learning tool, giving you access to knowledge, insights and experience of the author who is an expert in the field. We will discuss the textbook again on another page.
Use the learning tools on "Dr. Nilsson's CyberOffice". My "CYBER OFFICE" has been designed to assist and facilitate your learning. We will discuss these learning tools on the "CYBER OFFICE" again on another page.
I hope you will visit "Dr. Nilsson's CyberOffice often", because I believe it will help you succeed in your class.
STUDY GROUPS:
Study groups increase student success. Work with a partner or a small study group. While this is not for everyone, it often helps to focus your studying efforts. The instructor will be available to answer group questions, but the instructor will not recite the old lectures over again. With students in a study group it is easier to figure things out. If you'd like to form a study group, the next page has some suggestions to help you do that.
