Welcome to "Tips for Biology Success". These webpages offer some helpful tips, collected from many different sources: textbooks, web pages, list servers, and from personal communication with other college instructors. Discover what it takes to be a successful college student, find ways to improve your study skills, and understand how you can improve your grades. Many students already know some or most of what is written on these "Tips for Biology Success" pages, but a refresher will probably not hurt. For other students much of the information on these pages may come as a surprise. If so, read on, you need to know and understand what college is all about.
During the semester I don't expect you to learn and use all of this information. But I hope you will make use of some of the tips, in this class or some of your classes. "Tips for Biology Success" used to be required reading for all my students. I still recommend students to read the pagees, but it is no longer required...
First, unlike some other courses you may have had, biology really does require a daily or at least a bi-weekly review of materials.
Secondly,, mastering these "tips" requires some work, mostly to break old, inefficient habits. Improved study skills will save you lots of time and help you improve your knowledge of facts and concepts. This will lead to better grades and a more productive life.
REMEMBER:
Getting Started
You must print out the worksheet if you're reading these pages for an assignment. At present this is not an assignment required for your class. To print the worksheet:

You should also read the SYLLABUS.
If you are coming back after taking a pause at page 8, you can go directly to page 8 by clicking HERE.
I recommend that you use the "next" buttons at the bottom, or top, of each page. Read each page in the order it appears on the screen. However, you can also reach all these "tips" pages via the links in the table at the bottom of the pages (see below). The link with the blue "home" icon will take you back to this page.
