SYLLABUS INFORMATION for Environmental Biology 2306 (as taught by Dr. Jan A. Nilsson)

x Before you will be able to continue with the course you must acknowledge that you have read this syllabus information page and know where to find the syllabus for this class. You do so by answering the one-question Blackboard "Syllabus Acknowledgment Quiz", also called the "Student Contract", on or before the due date listed in the Semester Calendar.

x A syllabus is an academic contract between the student and the professor.

x In Texas each higher education institution's core curriculum must be designed to satisfy a series of "basic intellectual competencies" - including but not limited to reading, writing, listening, critical thinking, and computer literacy. Computer literacy at the college level means the ability to use computer-based technology in communicating, solving problems, and acquiring information.  In line with this the course syllabus is provided online.

x The syllabus for this course can be found on-line at Dr. Nilsson's CyberOffice located on the STC server at the following URL:

xhttp://www.southtexascollege.edu/nilsson/2_EnvironmentalBiology.html

x Directions: The web page you navigate to by clicking on the link above is the Environmental Biology Hub on Dr. Nilsson's CyberOffice. Click on the link to the "Syllabus".

x Do not rely on printed copies of -- unless you waste paper printing new copies on a regular basis. Some parts of the syllabus are etched in stone, while others are tentative and may change. All versions of this class as taught by Dr. Nilsson, the web-enhanced regular class, the hybrid class, and the online class are web based and use the Internet for course delivery. One of the strengths of the Internet (some say it is a weakness) is that it is dynamic and change continually. Therefore note the following:

The information for a particular class may be changed/updated due to unforeseen circumstances to meet the needs of a particular class. The instructor therefore reserves the right to alter (add, delete, or revise) any items of the above, online or via verbal instructions in class. The student is responsible for taking note of any such changes and acting accordingly.

x You must now acknowledge that you have received the information above where to locate the on-line course syllabus and that you UNDERSTAND the following pertaining to this class:

The instructor is in charge of the class. It is the YOUR responsibility as a student to read and become familiar with all the provisions of the syllabus, such as attendance/participation, grading criteria, semester calendar, make-up policies (there are no make-ups in this class) -- and to review the syllabus whenever you are unsure about something regarding the course. It is YOUR job to study, read instructions, read the textbook, answer online open book quizzes and learning drills, participate in online class discussions (where students and the instructor may state opinions that you not necessarily agree with) and do other assignments -- in a timely fashion.

x You may not agree with what is written on this page, but you must acknowledge by answering the "Student Contract" Quiz that you have read it, and that you know where the syllabus is located, and that you have been informed that it is your responsibility as a student to read the syllabus information. You do so, again, by answering the Blackboard "Syllabus Acknowledgment Quiz", also called the "Student Contract", on or before the due date listed in the Semester Calendar.

x The "Student Contract" Quiz has one (1) true or false question, and is located on the first page you navigate to, when you click on the link to your class on Blackboard. If you found this page on Blackboard you have already located the Blackboard Home Page for the class. If you found this page on Dr. Nilsson's CyberOffice, you need to login to Blackboard to find the quiz.

x If you do not submit the "Student Contract" Quiz, you will not be able to continue with the class. If you do not submit the "Student Contract" Quiz you should drop the class. It is the responsibility of the student to drop the class. The instructor may or may not remove students from the class roster. All students remaining on the class roster at the end of the semester -- have not dropped or not been dropped -- will have the letter grade F reported to STC.

x For those of you submitting the "Student Contract" Quiz, as soon as you pass the quiz with 100 -- answer the true or false question correct (you have unlimited number of attempts), a link will open up to "Blackboard Plaza", on the Blackboard Content Page (also called Blackboard Home Page -- the same page where the link to the Student Contract Quiz was located). Click on the link to "Blackboard Plaza". To continue follow the instructions on "Blackboard Plaza".

x Welcome to class! Let's have a great semester of scholarly activities!
