x The semester project is a "field" class assignment you must do outdoors, on your own individually or in small groups of two or three persons. (Except for the Humane Society Project, it does require a digital camera -- most cell phones have one these days. If you plan to do one of the other projects make sure that you, or if you work in a group at least one of the group members, have access to a digital camera. If four persons wish to work together they may form two 2-person groups and work together.) Students have the opportunity to replace the longer Environmental Detective Project -- which must be submitted online on Blackboard, with a Humane Society Donation and Dog Walk -- which in hybrid or traditional classes also can be submitted in the classroom. x

x Select the project you wish to do after reading the instructions (Click on the purple buttons. These buttons will not be "clickable" until the day the Project Assignment opens. See the Semester Calendar.) Some limited instructions are includes below (scroll down). x

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS

From the instructor: If you are interested in helping abandoned dogs -- do the DOG WALK...

x Environmental Detective.

NOTE: This project requires the student to design a PowerPoint -- OR -- KeyNote Presentation and submit it online on Blackboard.

If you select this project you MUST submit it online on Blackboard. It can be submitted ONLINE at any time during the semester, within the semester calendar dates (date when "Project Assignment" opens and the Project due date):

Submit a presentation program (e.g., PowerPoint or Keynote) online on Blackboard (in the appropriate Semester Project folder on Blackboard -- NOT VIA E-MAIL) with a short message (with your presentation attached). (Reading these instructions is part of the project and the grade. The instructor does not intend to look for your project, so if you submit it via e-mail or in a different folder, it will not be graded and the earned grade, for not reading the instructions will be ZERO.)

This is what you must submit:

x This must be in the Semester Project submission when posted on Blackboard: 1. A minimum 100-word message written on a word processor identifying yourself and the project and discussing your experience. 2. An ATTACHED file of the PowerPoint Presentation program file or Keynote Presentation program file with your presentation. The presentation must have at least 11 photos -- you or the group must be clearly visible in five (5) of the pictures. At least five (5) must be clean environmental pictures on the topic -- without any persons in the photo. One photo must be of a map of the local area indicating where you did the project. (See the detailed instruction page when it opens as per the semester calendar.)

Record of submission: The file that will be present in the Blackboard bulletin board assigned for the project is the record of submission. If you don't see the file you have done something wrong. If the file is not in the appropriate Semester Project folder on or before the deadline you will EARN a zero.

x Wildlife Refuge Visit.

NOTE: This project requires the student to design a PowerPoint -- OR -- KeyNote Presentation and submit it online on Blackboard.

An ATTACHED file of the PowerPoint Presentation program file or Keynote Presentation program file with your presentation. The presentation must have at least 11 photos -- you or the group must be clearly visible in five (5) of the pictures -- one of those five must also include a person (with you) in uniform working at the refuge, and one must show you or the group by the visitor station. At least five (5) must be clean nature pictures from the refuge -- without any persons in the photo. One photo must be of a map indicating the location of the wildlife refuge where you did the project. (See the detailed instruction page when it opens as per the semester calendar.)

Record of submission: The file that will be present in the Blackboard bulletin board assigned for the project is the record of submission. If you don't see the file you have done something wrong. If the file is not in the appropriate Semester Project folder on or before the deadline you will EARN a zero.

x Dog Walk.

NOTE: This project does NOT require the student to design a PowerPoint -- OR -- KeyNote Presentation.

If you select this project you can submit it with the methods described below. However, the online method is the method you SHOULD select if you know how to submit things online (or wish to learn). Students who wish a record of submission MUST submit online:

Method 1: Use this method if you wish to have a record of your submission. Submit your writings and photographs and a photo/scanned copy of the receipt from the Humane Society (Palm Valley Animal Shelter) as a message and attachments in the assigned bulletin board on Blackboard -- NOT VIA E-MAIL.

This is what you must submit:

x This must be in the Semester Project submission when posted on Blackboard: 1. A minimum 100-word message written on a word processor identifying yourself and the project and discussing your experience. 2. An ATTACHED photo of you and the dog you walked. 3. An ATTACHED photo of you and the bag of dog food you donated. 4. An ATTACHED readable photo (with a digital camera -- most cell phones have one these days) or scanned (with a scanner) digital copy of the donation receipt obtained from the Humane Society (Palm Valley Animal Shelter). (You do NOT have to submit the receipt from the store where you purchased the dog food...)

Record of submission: The file that will be present in the Blackboard bulletin board assigned for the project is the record of submission. If you don't see the file you have done something wrong. If the file is not in the appropriate Semester Project folder on or before the deadline you will EARN a zero.

Method 2 (This option is only available to students meeting in a classroom at some point in the semester when the project is due. IT IS NOT AVAILABLE TO STUDENTS IN THE ON-LINE CLASSES.):

Submit your photographs and the receipt from the Humane Society (Palm Valley Animal Shelter) at the class meeting indicated in the semester calendar. To protect the project ALL ITEMS must be submitted in a plastic POCKET sheet protector (a POCKET sheet protector with ONE pocket, opening up, with standard holes allowing it to be stored in a binder provided in class by the instructor).

This is what you must submit:

x This must be in the Semester Project submission when submitted in a manila size plastic sheet protector: 1. Printed on paper a minimum 100-word message written on a word processor identifying yourself and the project and discussing your experience. 2. A photo quality (real photo or printout on photo quality paper) of you and the dog you walked. 3. A photo (real photo or printout on photo quality paper) of you and the bag of dog food you donated. 4. The donation receipt obtained from the Humane Society (Palm Valley Animal Shelter). (You do NOT have to submit the receipt from the store where you purchased the dog food...)

NOTE: The photo MUST be on a photo quality paper. A photo printed on a regular photocopy paper does NOT qualify for a grade. Also, if printed on a photo quality paper the PRINTING QUALITY must be QUALITY. (Don't print if you have a lousy printer...)

Record of submission: There is no record of submission. If your assignment is not in the hands of the instructor at the time of grading you will EARN a zero. This method of submission is a courtesy to students in face-to-face classes who think it is too complex to submit online on Blackboard. (We are in a "technology era" -- if you feel it is necessary to have a record of your submission, then you must submit the assignment online on Blackboard as described above.) The submission date may or may not be slightly different from the Blackboard submission date -- see the Semester Calendar.

Below is a YouTube plastic sheet protector video for students unsure of what is a plastic sheet protector -- "letter paper size", to fit into a class-binder provided by the instructor.
