Calendar Notes for Regular (web enhanced), Hybrid, and Online Classes

Notes:
Online students do not meet in the classroom. For regular and hybrid students, when the class does not meet in the classroom, the class meets online (- - students must go online to the Environmental Biology hub on Dr. Nilsson's CyberOffice and / or STC Blackboard anytime during the scheduled day, but it is recommended that students in addition go on-line every day - -), or the time is allotted for the semester project or reading the textbook. Blackboard BBs (Bulletin Boards), on the STC Blackboard server, Chapter Quizzes, and some other assignments, require an STC username and password assigned to all students by the STC Distance Learning. Go to STC Distance learning if you need information about username and password.
Blackboard Bulletin Board discussions and the associated Internet Activities (and classroom videos for regular/hybrid students), are "critical and reflective thinking activities" and students are expected to "participate" (read and post messages) in the discussion THROUGHOUT the discussion period (the whole semester for some discussion topics), not necessarily every day (even though that is recommended).
Some semesters some assignments may NOT be open at the beginning of the semester. It is the responsibility of the student to read the Semester Calendar and/or visit Blackboard to find out when the various assignments open and/or are due.
For ALL students (Online, Hybrid, and Regular students) the 15 open book Chapter Quizzes are to be completed on Blackboard. All quizzes must be completed on or before the due date indicated in the Semester Calendar. Most of the answers are in the textbook, but some questions may be based on online information (if so that will be noted on the quiz). Quizzes will disappear from Blackboard at the end of the semester (will not be available anymore) as noted in the Semester Calendar. Students will get a zero on chapter quizzes not completed with a score of 94 (including the last quiz). Unfinished quizzes do NOT qualify for an incomplete grade!
Each student is expected to read the textbook from cover-to-cover.
For regular (web enhanced) and hybrid students, to receive the attendance point for viewing classroom videos, a video must be viewed from start to finish. Students arriving after the video has started or leaving before the video is finished, or leaving during the video, will NOT receive ANY attendance points for that video. Online students are encouraged to view the videos viewed in the regular class that are usually available in most video rental stores, or often at WalMart or Target. Because of classroom logistics online students cannot come to class and view the videos.
