Grade Booster
The cartoons on this page, and other pages on Dr. Nilsson's CyberOffice, are included to challenge the students to take their college education seriously and to make students understand that diminishing academic standards and increasing problems with grade inflation are major problems in the United States today. If you are a serious student read the cartoons and smile, if you are not a serious student read the cartoons and think, or don't read this page...

All students planning to do the booster project are required to read this page and follow the instructions.

The grade you studied for and earned is the grade you will receive. The philosophy of this instructor does normally NOT include across the board "curved" grades. Curved grades contribute to eroding academic standards -- a MAJOR problem in today's society.

Grades will not be curved, however, the "earned" grade of "deserving" students can be "boosted" by EARNING extra points from a voluntary booster project.

This booster project is NOT mandatory, and therefore not required of the students in order to pass /get a good grade in the class as taught by this instructor. The booster is also NOT a method of curving grades (a curved grade includes all students in class -- deserving or not). The booster is extra points, which must be EARNED using a method set by the INSTRUCTOR. Also the booster is NOT automatic free points -- and it is up to each student to decide if he/she feels it is worth to attempt to "boost" the grade. The booster points will be added to the course grade at the end of the semester, and the booster is due when indicated in the semester calendar.

In order to qualify for the booster, you must have a good class attitude -- as subjectively determined by the instructor: Poor attitude, which may disqualify students from the booster, may include disruptive behavior in class or online, rude comments in class or online, skipping/missing assignments with no valid excuse, tardiness, not taking assignments seriously, and more (again, as SUBJECTIVELY determined by the instructor).

You must submit the "booster" as instructed -- including pay attention to the DEADLINE (or deadlines depending on the semester) and pay attention to HOW TO SUBMIT the booster.

If you are not willing to do the booster according to the educational philosophy and rules set by the instructor, pass the course on your own -- without any helpful "boosts". Stop reading this page now. Click "back" or the button.

Remember: You are supposed to study for your exams and quizzes -- which REQUIRES reading the textbook. If you have limited time you should study for the exams and quizzes, not do booster projects. However, if you have the time -- the booster can be relaxing and rewarding.

Note for students with poor class attitudes: The booster project is NOT mandatory -- not required of the students in order to pass /get a good grade in the class as taught by this instructor. Since the booster points are non-mandatory these extra points are under the complete control of the caring and dedicated professor. Only "deserving and hard-working students" qualify for the mentioned booster. Students with poor class attitude -- subjectively determined by your instructor, should NOT bother with these activities. If your instructor determines that you do NOT deserve any extra points to help you because you have a poor class attitude -- about the class or about the caring, dedicated professor, you will NOT receive any booster points.

The grading criteria for a particular class, including the booster projects, may be changed due to unforeseen circumstances to meet the needs of a particular class. The instructor therefore reserves the right to alter (add, delete, or revise) any items of the above, online or via verbal instructions in class -- including canceling a booster project for a particular class anytime during the semester. The student is responsible for taking note of any such changes and acting accordingly.
