A Night With The Stars 2007

Celebrating 10 Years of Academic Excellence

On Thursday, October 4th, 2007, South Texas College’s Valley Scholars Program kicked off its tenth anniversary in stellar style with its annual "A Night with the Stars." The event celebrated the program’s ten years of academic excellence, paying tribute to ten outstanding Valley Scholar alums who have continued on to successful careers and have made positive changes in their communities.

“The Valley Scholars Program at STC opened the door to a higher education by providing me with the resources, support and guidance necessary to be successful,” said Jose Tomas Calzadias Jr. “I am both honored and grateful to be a part of this prestigious organization.”

During the evening, ten Valley Scholars were honored for their accomplishments, dedication to academic excellence, and service to the community. Honorees included alums Shalimar Madrigal of McAllen, Christopher O. Park of Donna, Judith Hernandez of La Joya, Constance A. Salinas of Rio Grande City, Jose Tomas Calzadias Jr. of Weslaco, Kyndra Nicole Gatton of Weslaco, Amir Esmaeili of Mission, Mario Segura of McAllen, Jose Luis Caraveo of Pharr, and Cynthia E. Lopez of Mission.

The event also featured performances by the La Joya High School Mariachi Los Coyotes and Grupo Folklorico “Tabasco.”
