STC Student Services Open For Super Saturday on November 4th
Now that the fall semester is underway, its time to start thinking about spring 2007 and continuing your education or picking up new skills. To help you make these decisions, South Texas College’s Student Services will be open for “Super Saturday” on Saturday, Nov. 4th with extended hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and expanded staffing to help new and existing students with registration, testing, advising, counseling and financial aid services in preparation for the spring semester. Super Saturday will take place at the Student Services Building on the Pecan Campus in McAllen. Just look for the sign that says “Register Here.” “It may seem like you have plenty of time to register for the spring, but with the upcoming holidays, time will pass you by before you know it,” said William Serrata, vice president of student services and development for STC. “We understand the dilemma and that is why we are hosting Super Saturdays: extended hours and opportunities to register for classes, apply for financial aid and get your questions answered. Take some time before the holiday rush to plan your future for the spring. Give yourself the best gift possible – the gift of education.” South Texas College helps thousands of students apply and accept financial aid awards every semester, but there are still many more students that are not taking advantage of this opportunity. Staff will be on hand to help current and potential students understand financial aid, how to apply and what aid opportunities are available. Those interested in applying for aid should bring a copy of their 2005 tax return, or if a dependent, a parent's 2005 tax return. A parent's signature is required for dependents. Also, it is recommended that those interested in applying for aid bring a copy of their social security card, a state issued ID, driver's license or resident alien card and proof of other income benefits. “There are several types of financial aid, not just loans,” added Serrata. “South Texas College students are eligible for free money, grants and scholarships, and campus job opportunities. More than 70 percent of STC students receive financial aid. Visit a campus near you to see what we can do for you.” Free gifts will be provided to those who register for the spring semester during Super Saturday.
