STC Kids’ & Teens’ College Summer Program Kicks Off June 1

Registration Taking Place May 20th

South Texas College is once again getting ready to receive hundreds of elementary, middle school and high school students from Starr and Hidalgo Counties during the second annual Kids’ & Teens’ College. This summer program is scheduled to begin on June 1 with two sessions taking place. The first will be held June 1-14 and the second will take place June 19-30.

STC’s Starr County and Mid-Valley campuses, as well as STC’s Technology Center Workforce Center in McAllen, will hold a registration fair from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on May 20. The program’s purpose is to make learning fun for children currently in first through twelfth grade. Students will enjoy a variety of classes aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) objectives and enrichment programs, with hands on activities that promote interest in college and challenge students to use cognitive thinking skills.

Classes such as Living in Space, Art Exploration, Stars, Planets and Satellites, Scholarship & Grants, PowerPoint with Pizzazz, and Algebra Madness are just a section of the specialized classes that have been specifically designed for the different age groups of each student.

Each class is two-hours long. The sessions begin each day at 8 a.m. and will take place through out the day until 5 p.m. with a lunch break from 12-1 p.m. Lunch is not provided. Students are allowed to take up to four classes during each session at a cost of $90 per class. This fee includes the cost of the course, supplies/materials used in each class, and a t-shirt for each student.

Open registration will be held until May 22 at STC’s Starr County, Mid-Valley campuses and the Technology Center. A parent or legal guardian will need to be present for the registration process.

For special accommodations for any student please contact the STC Counseling and Advising Office at (956) 872-2173.
