STC and UTPA Job Placement Offices Work Together To Increase Job Opportunities For Students
The endless efforts to increase job opportunities for students and graduates have created an alliance between South Texas College and the University of Texas-Pan American to form the Career Employment Advisory Board (CEAB) of South Texas.
The CEAB of South Texas carries the mission to solidify partnerships with the business sector of the Rio Grande Valley to gain input on current and future market needs. In addition, the CEAB of South Texas will help to inform these entities of the ongoing and future projects of each academic institution.
“This project is still a work in progress, explains Celinda Palacios, coordinator of the STC Placement Office. “This is a project that will not only benefit the students, but the entire business sector in our region. We will be able to better prepare our students to meet and exceed the expected standards in the business segment, making them more marketable in the competitive market.”
Palacios is working alongside Velinda Reyes, director of the UTPA Placement Office and the McAllen Economic Development Council to finalize the workings of the CEAB of South Texas.
“We are now putting all our efforts into the board member selection process,” stated Palacios. “We understand that the appointed board members will determine the success and profitability of this project. We want to involve individuals from the business, government and academic areas to helps us adequately prepare our students in as many industries as possible. That is the main goal and we are certain that we will accomplish it.”
