Want to go to college, but not sure if you can afford it? South Texas College encourages everyone to apply for financial aid and find out today! Why delay your education? There are many federal and state funded grant and loan opportunities available to people of all income levels. STC will host a Financial Aid Fair on Saturday, August 5, 2006 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at its Pecan, Mid-Valley and Starr County Campus locations. The college offers numerous financial aid programs that make college affordable for those who qualify. The college's financial aid staff will be available to explain federal and state programs, veteran's assistance, federal work study opportunities and a variety of other grants, scholarships and financial aid programs. STC staff will also provide assistance with filling out and filling forms and course registration for the fall 2006 semester.

"Don't put off going to college because you don't think you can afford it," said William Serrata, vice president for student services and development for STC. "Most people don't realize that there are hundreds of assistance programs available. STC staff will help you fill out your financial aid application, tell you what you qualify for and help you register for classes. STC offers more than 90 degree and certificate options, so there are opportunities for everyone in the community to continue their education and enhance their skill sets."

Those attending the fair should bring a copy of their 2005 income tax return or if a dependent, a copy of their parent's return. A parent's signature is required for dependents. Also, it is recommended that those interested in applying for aid bring a copy of their social security card, a state issued ID, driver's license or resident alien card and proof of other income benefits.

Loans are monies that a student or parent borrows that must be repaid.

A: Other factors are taken into consideration, including the number of people living in your household, number of people in college in your household, the age of the older parent, savings, investments and assets available.
