Latest STC Art Exhibit Touches All The Senses
The history of women’s fashion is the inspiration for the latest art exhibit sponsored by the South Texas College Women’s Studies Committee. Florida sculptor and performance artist Rachel Hoffman visits STC this month to unveil her newest exhibit, “A Startling Exhibition of Strength, Dexterity and Disguise.”
The exhibit will open with an artist reception at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 24 at the Art Gallery in Bldg. B-103 on the Pecan Campus, 3201 W. Pecan Blvd. in McAllen.
In addition to her art exhibit, Hoffman will deliver two performances to STC students on Wednesday, Jan. 23 at the STC Mid-Valley Campus, 400 North Border Avenue, in Bldg. F at noon. She will be at the Pecan Campus in McAllen on Thursday, Jan. 24 at noon in Bldg. H.
“My work is consistently of, about, or even sometimes physically connected to the vulnerable object and machine that is my body,” Hoffman notes. “Nevertheless, I strive to illustrate the interpretation of the physical and mental, and to resolve the dualism of perception and representation.”
Hoffman is an art instructor in Florida and holds a master’s degree in fine arts from the University of South Florida. Her art work is portrayed through physical performances and states she strives “to offer a decadent and gluttonous feast to the aesthetic consumer.”
The exhibit and reception are free and open to the public. For more information on Hoffman’s presentation or the exhibit call the STC Art Gallery at (956) 872-3478.
