Biology Instructor Attends Binational Rio Grande Summit
Dr. Jerry Freeman, biology instructor at the STC Mid-Valley Campus, was invited to attend the Binational Rio Grande Summit held at Reynosa, Tamaulipas, Mexico from Nov. 16-18. Dr. Freeman is also in his third year as member of the Citizens Advisory Committee to the International Boundary and Waters Commission.
“The purpose of this conference was to bring together experts from federal, state, and local governments, international entities, academic institutions, non-government organizations, irrigation districts, water managers and the private sector to discuss water management in the region,” Dr. Freeman said. “It served to get information about the sustainable management of the Rio Grande Basin.”
Topics covered included, legal and informational matters, binational basin management, environment and water quality, and finance.
“This opportunity was a helpful update to certain water issues, an opportunity to network and participate in policy development,” commented Dr. Freeman regarding the conference. “Overall, this conference will help enhance the content and applicability of my teaching and community service.”
