NAHC offers its students a new Student Success Center

The fifth STC Student Success Center is now located at the Nursing and Allied Health Center, offering one-to-one tutoring, Peer-Assisted Learning (PAL) programs, workshops, study rooms, reference resources, and an open-computer lab.

Serving as the Center’s Specialist, Dr. Lydia Bean excitedly explains, “I have really enjoyed working with NAHC faculty, staff, and students to develop a Center that meets the unique needs of Nursing and Allied Health students. Everyone I’ve spoken with seems thrilled that we are now in existence. Of course, we still have a great deal of work ahead of us, but I truly believe that we are already well on our way to providing high quality educational services.”

Currently, the Center employs 12 academic tutors who can assist in Math, English, or Science/Nursing subject areas. Although tutoring is generally offered on a drop-in basis, students are welcome to make appointments with a specific tutor. Serving as a pilot program at STC this semester, the Peer-Assisted Learning (PAL) program allows students in a particular course to study collaboratively with other students and to utilize Student Success Center resources.  Sponsored by the SSC, students may take advantage of workshops that cover a wide range of topics and that focus on personal and academic enrichment.

Students are also invited to utilize four private study rooms or the computer lab equipped with approximately 30 computers with Internet access and a host of nursing and educational/learning software programs.

In addition to serving as a place to study, students also have an opportunity to appreciate over 20-brilliantly hued artworks loaned by James Miller, art professor at STC.

“The NAH Center Student Success Center is dedicated to the mission of providing the highest quality of education to students, of expanding opportunities for their career development, and of stimulating their continuing intellectual growth,” stated Dr. Bean. “Please come visit us to see how we can help you or your students!”

The NAH Center’s Student Success Center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
