NAH students must comply with both Texas law and clinical facility requirements related to immunizations and testing. Note: Students should not delay completing their immunizations; some take up to 4-6 months to complete.
Students will NOT be allowed to register for clinical programs with documentation of COMPLETED program immunization requirements.
According to Texas Administrative Code, Title 25, Chapter 97, Subchapter B, Rule §97.64, the following immunizations are required for all students enrolled in a Nursing/Allied Health clinical program involving direct patient care prior to enrollment.
This standard is required of all the following programs prior to a clinical/practicum course:
Associate Degree Nursing
Emergency Medical Technology
Medical Assisting
Occupational Therapy Assistant
Physical Therapist Assistant
Patient Care Technology
Radiologic Technology
Vocational Nursing
Note:Students in Health Information Technology, Medical Transcription, Medical Records Specialist, Medical Coding, and Pharmacy Technology are highly encouraged to obtain immunizations but are not required to submit documentation prior to enrollment.
All students must submit acceptable documentation of immunization, immunity or serologic verification as described in the Standard by the deadline specified in their acceptance process. A hold on registration will be in effect until the compliance secretary in the office of the Dean of Nursing/Allied Health Division receives the required documentation.
Procedure:
1)Submit immunization record, letter of immunity, or serological report for all the following required immunizations to the compliance secretary by required deadline.
Measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine (MMR)
Tetanus-diphtheria toxoid (Td); booster within past 10 years
Complete series of Hepatitis B
Varicella
2)If you are missing any of the above immunizations or need to update your Td booster, go to your personal physician or preferred clinical and obtain any missing or outdated immunizations.
