South Texas College has drug screening requirements for all Nursing and Allied Health (NAH) clinical and practicum programs. The rationale for this requirement for students is based on the concept of due diligence and competency assessment of all individuals whose assignments bring them in contact with patients, confidential personal and medical information, or clinical affiliation employees. DO NOT seek drug screening until directed by the NAH Clinical Compliance Specialist. Any student initiated reports will not be accepted.. (more)

Prospective Nursing and Allied Health students receive the drug screen and criminal background check rationale/criteria in program information materials, application packets, college catalog, and online through the program WEB page.

Criminal Background Check: Following admission to the program, before registration, and by the designated deadline, the student must complete a personal Disclosure Statement and provide permission for an online criminal history check by the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) to the Clinical Affairs Specialist.
Pre-enrollment Drug Screening: Prior to registration for clinical or practicum courses, the student must obtain a drug screen from an approved vendor and the Dean of Nursing and Allied Health Division must receive the results by the designated deadline... (more)
