South Texas College’s Nursing & Allied Health Library Art Gallery is proud to present the artwork of Jimena Marin. The exhibit showcases Marin’s charcoal drawings, acrylic on canvas paintings and fiber artworks. The exhibit opens on Wednesday, November 12th with a reception from 11:30am – 12:30pm at STC’s Nursing & Allied Health Library Art Gallery located at 1101 E. Vermont Ave., McAllen.  Admission is free and open to the public.

Originally from Guadalajara, Mexico Jimena Marin is a 2008 MFA graduate from Texas Tech University, and is currently an art instructor at her alma matter.  Her artwork concentrates on the systematic repetition of pattern and design to express and register emotion. Marin’s artwork is consumed with her articulate execution of organic shapes which act as personal and meaningful metaphors within her life.

“Marin has very specific reasoning behind her artistic concepts as her artwork draws from personal observations and experiences that are global, informative and insightful,” said David Freeman, STC Library Art Gallery curator and programs coordinator.
“My art is a registro of mental and emotional processes related to personal experiences,” said Marin. ” As a child I learned that by engaging in repetitive tasks, I was able to travel mentally to a place that was better than my reality. My art is a sample of what my hands and body were doing during my mental journey. I build structures that connect with my ideas in a poetic way; I create visual metaphors and by repeating shapes with a rhythm I get a material evidence of my thoughts and learning processes.”

Jimena Marin’s artwork will be on display at STC’s Nursing & Allied Health Library Art Gallery through January 30th, 2009.

The South Texas College Library Art Gallery program exhibits regional, national and international artwork, explores new visions and theories of creativity, and introduces innovative artistic expressions to the South Texas region.
