The Women's Studies Committee of South Texas College in conjunction with the Instituto de Investigaciones Sociales, Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León is pleased to announce a call for papers for our sixth annual conferenceon Human Trafficking. The conference traditionally consists of panel presentations, guest speakers from academia, government agencies, NGOs and investigative journalists, and an art exhibit with juried submissions from local and international artists.
This year, the focus will cover all aspects of global labor trafficking including (but not limited to) bonded and coerced labor, the exploitation of migrants and displaced persons, and sex trafficking. We seek submissions from scholars, practitioners and journalists, from both the public and private sectors, whose work focuses on labor abuse at the sub-state, national, or supra-national levels. Selected papers from the conference will be eligible to be included in our upcoming publication on the state of labor trafficking across the globe.
Proposals for papers, panels and roundtables (including abstracts of up to 400 words) will be accepted through March 20, 2012, and may be sent via e-mail to either Jenny B. Clark, Chair of the Women's Studies Committee, at jclark@southtexascollege.edu, Arun Acharya Kumar, the Conference Co-chair, at acharya_77@yahoo.com or Denese McArthur, the Women's Studies Assistant Chair at damcarth@southtexascollege.edu. Please include the term "Modern Day Slavery Conference" in the subject line.
Please pass on to your colleagues as appropriate. We shall make prompt responses to all proposals.
The Sixth Annual conference on Human Trafficking is co-sponsored by the Family Crisis Center of Harlingen, the Bilateral Safety Corridor Coalition in San Diego, and the Florida Coalition Against Trafficking. CEUs for social workers and lawyers are pending approval, as is TCLOESE credit for law enforcement agents.
