South Texas College will continue to seek national recognition by developing nationally recognized programs in keeping with the College’s Strategic Directions.

- South Texas College President Shirley A. Reed has been named a recipient of the 2011 Alfredo G. de los Santos Jr. Distinguished Leadership in High Education Award from the American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education (AAHHE)
- For the fourth time in five years, South Texas College’s Chemistry Club was honored with the American Chemistry Society’s Outstanding Award. The award is given for the breadth and depth of the club’s activities during the 2009/ 2010 academic year.
- National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD): Excellence Award. Annually, more than 20 faculty and staff members are recognized with National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development (NISOD) Excellence Awards.
- STC is one of 21 colleges designated by Achieving the Dreams to serve as a Leader College for serving Hispanic students 2009. STC was one of the original 27 community colleges selected to be part of the Achieving the Dreams initiative.
- MetLife Foundation: 2008 Community College Excellence Award for promoting educational and economic advancement
- Government Finance Officers Association (United States and Canada): Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, and 2007.
- Association of Community College Trustees: 2005 Western Region Equity Award.
- North American Council for Staff Professional and Organizational Development (NCSPOD): 2004 Institutional Merit Award
- STC is a key player in the North American Advanced Manufacturing Research and Education Initiative (NAMREI) and was awarded $5 million by the U.S. Department of Labor and $3 million by the Texas Workforce Commission.
