Creating art is a practice that separates us from lower forms of life. It is my intention to help the student realize and tap into his or her own form of expression according to certain objectives of the particular art studio class. I try to help my students in studio classes achieve this quality of expression that art can supply. I like to say that my studio classes are challenging, worthwhile, fun, and engaging. I stress experimentation: it is through trying new and different things that one may not have tried before that learning takes place.
I also fully enjoy teaching art appreciation classes. Art appreciation is for those who are not necessarily art majors but choose to be in art appreciation to learn the complexities, expression, and joy that the visual arts can bring to the individual. Generally, students come away from my art appreciation classes with a whole new outlook on the world that they may not have had before. I encourage and welcome discussion from my students concerning topics that I present through art slide lectures. I feel that my art appreciation classes, although they are not necessarily easy (there are exams to take and papers to write), they are enjoyable and enlightening.

I fully enjoy listening to music like what my students refer to as “oldies” or “what my dad listens to!” Examples are REM during the early to mid-80’s, Los Lobos, Iguanas, Santana, The Blazers, the first CD by The Cranberries, etc.
Favorite movies: Apocalypse Now, Catch 22, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Sleepy Hollow, Elizabeth, Under the Volcano, Mi Familia, The Milagro Beanfield War, Zoot Suit, Saving Private Ryan, Basquiat, The Nightmare Before Christmas, British comedies The Black Adder and The Young Ones, etc.
I also enjoy fully experimenting with and making authentic Jamaican Jerk barbecue.
